No castles here
Augie is pretty different, mostly because of the way he looks. He isn’t too fond of school and his teachers, and now that his only friend has moved away, there is no one left to stand up for him.
This is mostly a straightforward realistic book – with a touch of magic. The best thing about this book is that the protagonist does not become a master of martial arts, beats up the bullies, and then becomes their best friends. He does find a way to see something positive in the enemy, and then is forced to make a tough moral decision regarding them.
