Knit your bit: a world war I story

When his father leaves to fight in World War I, Mikey joins the Central Park Knitting Bee to help knit clothing for soldiers overseas.

Knit Your Bit is an illustrated book for young people that combines real pieces of history with a fun, fictional tale. Based on a real “Knit-in” event at Central Park in 1918, it’s a story about a young boy who wants to contribute to the war effort but thinks that knitting is only for girls. The book shows readers that making a lasting contribution is as easy as trying something new. Heroes don’t always carry a gun.
