Tytöt tytöt tytöt

(Girls Girls Girls) Book not yet available in English

Summary:

Short-tempered and pessimistic Mimmi is a highschooler who doesn’t believe in love. She works in a shopping mall’s smoothie bar with her best friend, chatty and idealistic Rönkkö. Rönkkö dreams of a fairytale love story and thirsts for sexual experiences that feel like something. Emma is a goal-oriented figure skater who is stressed by failures and the upcoming European Championship qualifying competition. Mimmi and Emma meet at a party and are instantly attracted to each other. Rönkkö is trying to date but sex still does not feel like anything. Mimmi and Emma are getting close very quickly and Rönkkö is desperate to find a similar connection with someone. The novel is based on the author’s film Tytöt tytöt tytöt (Girls Girls Girls, 2022).

Comment:

The novel is about three girls who all have their own struggles. Emma is a young athlete who experiences intense stress and performance anxiety when an important competition approaches. Mimmi is not on good terms with her mother, who is focusing on her new family and seems to forget Mimmi all the time. Rönkkö is a romantic but all of her dating experiences have been more or less lukewarm. She has sex, but it doesn’t feel like anything. Youth is about parties, fun, and crushes, but big emotions can also trigger a flight response.
