(All love is alien) Book not yet available in English

Summary:

Pauline has been brought up by three generations of women – her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. All three are single and hate men, seeing them as nothing but trouble. Pauline has never met her father and her mother refuses to tell her anything about him. One day, Pauline finds out that her father was actually an alien, and aliens’ daughters always turn into men at puberty…

Comment:

The books opens with the seemingly ordinary life of an American girl, focusing on her discovery of her own body and of male and female sexuality. The narrative then turns into a zany science fiction adventure, handling the themes of gender identity and sexual relationships with a poetic touch. Susie Morgenstern is a well-known author: several of her novels, including La Sixième, Lettres d’amour de 0 à 10, and La première fois que j’ai eu 16 ans, are now seen as French YA classics. For this book, she joined forces with Alain Grousset, a prolific YA science fiction author, to write a witty, unusual novel that is bound to make its mark on readers.
