Comment:
The novel tells a story about transgender boy Esra. He is still waiting for a referral to the trans clinic so he has to acquire testosterone in not so legal ways. He has troubles in his relationships, both with his friends and family. Esra’s parents are well-off artists: the mother writes auto-fiction about her own family and the father is a director whose inappropriate working methods get highlighted in the media (#metoo). The mother has been a bad role model for Esra’s sister concerning food, eating and body image, which has led to the sister having an eating disorder. The father has made Esra an actor from very early on, but Esra is not sure if he wants to act anymore. Esra doesn’t feel comfortable at home or at school, and feels like an outsider everywhere.
