Qu’est-ce qui fait mon genre ?

(What makes my gender?) Book not yet available in English

Summary:

A documentary on the difference between sex and gender that raises numerous philosophical and societal questions.

Comment:

This documentary is concise (only 45 pages) but effective. The introduction is based on the findings of an Ifop study from November 2020, according to which 20% of 18-30 year olds do not identify as either female or male. This raises three main questions: Why are male-female stereotypes so powerful? What is it about gender that makes some people want to escape it? How can we think about it in order to escape these norms? The argument is clear and numerous references to authors are included in the text, allowing readers to explore the subject further through other readings.
