Comment:
The traditional fairytale structure is turned on its head in a witty feminist twist: a taste for absurdity and irony makes up for the potential clumsiness of a straightforward reversal of stereotypical fairytale gender roles. It may be questioned whether younger readers will be aware of the ironic distance, however. The ending, which is more unexpected, foregrounds individual freedom and is doubtless within the grasp of every reader.
