Comment:
Transsexuality is rarely a theme in children’s literature. Catherine Zambon handles the thorny issue with short scenes and sober, poetic, powerful language. The play subtly blends the boy’s explorations and daydreams, the violent bullying, the powerlessness of the adults, and the bravery of the children. The theatre company “Les Veilleurs” has staged the sensitive, openly militant play that explores sexual identities without preaching or courting controversy.
