Alma M. Karlin was a cosmopolitan, polyglot, writer and above all an extraordinarily well-educated woman. She was driven by her curiosity to explore the lands and people from all corners of the world. She went around the world in 8 years, wrote down what she noticed and – because she did not have a camera – also sketched the animals, plants and people she encountered. Even in her own time, her lifestyle and ideas made her stand out, and she is still considered to be one of the most courageous and remarkable women of all time. The work has received the Golden Pear Mark of Quality.
