Laske salaa kymmeneen

(Count Secretly to Ten) Book not yet available in English

Summary:

Fourth grade is coming to an end and 10-year-old Myy is feeling conflicted. The summer holiday is starting soon and she won’t see her best friends Heta, Viivi, Camilla and Aada for a long time. Myy is often left out among the “Pätkis” friend group, and the others also have their own secret group text. Myy would like to be a child again, but without her friends, who only talk about boys and doing their nails, she would definitely be lonely. However, the summer becomes completely different when Myy meets Lassi, a wild and inventive boy who has moved to the neighborhood. The two’s imaginative games in the forest make Myy almost forget about the dull friend group, who despise playing.

Comment:

The novel is about Myy, who would like to be a child again, but whose friends no longer want to play. They are more interested in boys, among other things. In the summer, Myy meets Lassi, with whom she finds a new kind of joy to her days. In addition to various games and play sessions, Lassi is easy to talk to. The novel deals with feelings of being an outsider, friendship, family relationships, and living on the border between childhood and adolescence.
