Je ne suis pas le doudou de mon papa

(I'm not my daddy's cuddly toy) Book not yet available in English

Summary:

Before, Bertille would fall asleep every night soundly, tucked in, snuggled up against his stuffed animal Oscar. That was before.
One night, Bertille’s father lay down next to him. He came back the following night, and then every night after that. He made Bertille swear that it was their “secret.”
Bertille doesn’t like this secret, nor his father’s actions. He is no longer as happy, and at school, his grades are plummeting… until he comes across a book and a sentence that will set him free: “I am not Daddy’s cuddly toy!”

Comment:

Addressing the theme of incest, Élisabeth Brami’s novel is on a par with its protagonist, a young boy who struggles to express his emotions, fears, and suffering. The story fully captures the confusion caused in his mind by his father’s actions.
Mirroring the character’s journey, the book encourages children to break the silence and engage in dialogue with their parents.
