Io e la tigre

(The tiger and I) Book not yet available in English

A little girl meets a tiger in a garden of the Rome Ostiense suburb. The tiger of this story is not a nice one: she likes eating children. And yet our protagonist is not afraid of her. The girl and the tiger become friends and start travelling around the world together…

Finalist at the Premio Nazionale di Letteratura per Ragazzi (National Award of Children’s Literature) in the city of Bella, this original book is enriched with funny illustrations by Camilla Falsini, and it tells the story of an apparently improbable friendship between a tiger and a child. A little girl and a tiger which are both very normal: the former is “a good little girl, like many others… maybe a bit special, like many others.” The latter is not at all a nice tiger: in fact in a little time, the girl sees her eating two cats, an old lady, and a child who was playing with a stick. Yet the little girl of our story is not frightened: she understands that this is the nature of the tiger, so the two become friends and together they travel around the world. One day they decide to go back home, but once at the airport, to prevent the tiger from being closed in a cage and brought to a zoo, the girl decides to return alone. They will never meet again, but “neither the girl nor the tiger would be the same. To know that we have a friend somewhere in the world makes us different.” They will also write 372 letters and lots of postcards. In short, a funny but deep story about friendship, the true one, in which you simply are yourself, rejecting labels and cages for yourself and for the others. To sum up, a very special little girl, who instead of staying at home to play with dolls, travels the world with a dangerous tiger, and a dangerous tiger who loves travelling the world with an intelligent little girl.
