Summary:
Following a climate catastrophe caused by humans, animals mutated into humanimals and established a virtuous society organised around the control of humanity. Murphy, a young human girl with feathers covering her back, raised by a human-otter named Lontra, is admitted at the age of 16 to a prestigious institute to be categorised and assigned a task for life. She soon discovers the sad fate reserved for humans by humanimal society.

A dystopian fantasy novel with Potter-esque overtones, featuring an endearing heroine who is strong despite her naivety. The universe is fairly well constructed and provides a rich backdrop for a relatively linear narrative which, while not particularly original, effectively combines the themes of ecology and feminism.
