Giorgia e Giorgio. W i nonni!

(Giorgia and Giorgio. Hoorray for the grandparents!) Book not yet available in English

Grandpa and grandma are celebrating 50 years together. Helped by Giorgio and his dad, grandpa gets ready for a surprise party that the family is organizing. Grandma and Giorgio make cookies for the afternoon snack while waiting for Giorgia to come back from the football match; mum gets home in the evening from work and cuddles the kids; dad comes back earlier than usual and carefully inflates the balloons for the party.

This short picture book describes with the spontaneity and simplicity of the childish gaze the daily life of a family, in which the care of the home and of people are shared with joy. It shows a family in which each person has his/her own space and where there are no gender roles, because every activity is shared equally between men and women, the young and the elderly. It is a pleasant book with very good intentions: it shows that men also desire love and tenderness, that women also aspire to success in work and sport, and that grandparents also have a life beyond their role in the family. However, all these themes together risk making the book slightly didactic; it is nonetheless appreciated and entertaining for boys and girls. Settenove was created in 2013 and it is the first editorial project in Italy entirely dedicated to preventing discrimination and gender-based violence. It deals with these themes from different points of view and through all literary genres, with a focus on Italian and international fiction for children and young adults, which contributes to the development of a dimension free from stereotypes.
