Dînette dans le tractopelle
(Tea party in the digger) Book not yet available in English
Summary:
The toy catalogue neatly divides the pink pages for girls’ toys from the blue pages for boys’ toys. Until one day, it is torn up and the pages are stuck back together at random. The Baby Annabelle doll who dreamed of playing with a digger meets the Big Jim figurine, who loves tea parties. Boys and girls share their toys and games in a catalogue where every page is now purple. [Source: publisher]

Comment:
A delightful, imaginative story that challenges the sexism that permeates even toy catalogues, through a witty, original approach. The soft colours and gentle text avoid an overtly moralising tone. In the end, Baby Annabelle and Big Jim play together with whatever toys they like, against a purple backdrop that cancels out the girl / boy, pink / blue divide.
