Summary:
Dan Hope is an eleven-year old boy who has a lot of different wishes, but his biggest wish is for his dad to come home. This novel follows Dan’s schemes to find his dad and the difficulties he faces along the way.

Comment:
The vulnerability of the main character is of note here, and the novel explores the particular difficulty of this vulnerability, loneliness, and feelings of rejection at this pre-adolescent age in a manner that is not often achieved in novels featuring a main protagonist who is male for this age group.
