Comment:
This beautiful graphic-novel adaptation of The breadwinner original book and animated film tells the story of Parvana who must disguise herself as a boy to support her family during the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan, after her father gets arrested. The protagonist’s life stimulates a conversation on gender equality, and it is beautifully illustrated through a style which is simple but which shows the lights and shadows of Parvana’s experiences in each scene. Also, the Afghani setting is effectively depicted through details in the background, behind the development of the story.
