Comment:
This short picture book describes with the spontaneity and simplicity of the childish gaze the daily life of a family, in which the care of the home and of people are shared with joy. It shows a family in which each person has his/her own space and where there are no gender roles, because every activity is shared equally between men and women, the young and the elderly. It is a pleasant book with very good intentions: it shows that men also desire love and tenderness, that women also aspire to success in work and sport, and that grandparents also have a life beyond their role in the family. However, all these themes together risk making the book slightly didactic; it is nonetheless appreciated and entertaining for boys and girls. Settenove was created in 2013 and it is the first editorial project in Italy entirely dedicated to preventing discrimination and gender-based violence. It deals with these themes from different points of view and through all literary genres, with a focus on Italian and international fiction for children and young adults, which contributes to the development of a dimension free from stereotypes.
