Pearl Power

Summary:

Pearl is a clever and brave young girl who has moved to a new house and is starting in a new school. Her new adventures begin when she has to teach a boy in her class some lessons about being a girl.

Comment:

In this book, doing things “like a girl” takes on a positive and comedic twist, as Pearl continually proves what she can do physically and mentally, undoing gender stereotypes in the process. The book concludes with Pearl showing kindness and affection “like a girl” too, reiterating that qualities stereotypically associated with girls are to be celebrated in everyone.
