When Sophie gets…really really angry

Summary:

This book tells the story of what happens when Sophie gets angry. It shows how Sophie deals with her anger and how her family react to her when she feels angry.

Comment:

This book depicts a girl’s anger in all its vigour and intensity. Though anger is perhaps not a typical emotion attributed to girls in children’s books, it is shown as normal here, and the narrative allows Sophie to work through her anger on her own, before returning home where she is welcomed and is not made feel embarrassed or small for the expression of an emotion that is emphasised throughout as normal.
