The princess and the pony
Princess Pinecone wants to be a great warrior, and really wants a horse suitable for a warrior for her birthday. However, she gets a short little pony instead and wonders how this little pony is going to help her become a fearsome warrior.
Typical expectations of bravery and fearlessness are overturned throughout, as Princess Pinecone proves her bravery not through ferociousness in battle but through tenacity and affection. In addition to subverting ideas of a typical princess, the book explores a variety of ways of being brave.
