Summary:
Stella Starflake Pearl really wants to be an explorer and joins the Polar Bear Explorers’ Club to help fulfil her ambition, though she knows she will have a task on her hands as the Club does not like to accept girls as members. However, this is only the beginning of the obstacles that Stella must overcome.

The book introduces an important obstacle at its beginning: the barring of girls from certain activities, despite their capability. Stella proves herself to be as capable and brave as any of the male explorers in the club as they face danger together, and the book is important in terms of placing a female character to the forefront of such adventure narratives.
