(The Princess Who Did a Runner) Book not yet available in English
Summary:
Princess Leona’s parents are going to get her married to a prince, but Leona is not accepting this, so she runs away from the whole story. Her escape journey leads from one fairy tale to another, and Leona meets familiar fairy tale characters, such as the Magic Mirror, the Frog Prince, the Emperor who Wears No Clothes, and the Ugly Duckling. The independent Leona also shows others that they don’t have to be prisoners of their roles.

Comment:
In this picturebook an independent princess opposes strongly the roles given to princesses. Leona wants to be wise, strong and wild, and she is definitely not going to wait for any prince. The character jumps from one very well known fairy tale to another, while simultaneously breaking the narrow roles assigned to princesses. The book contains intertextual references to the following fairy tales, among others: Snow White, Cinderella, The Princess and the Pea, The Princess and the Frog, Rapunzel, and The Emperor’s New Clothes.
