Summary:
Les Cahiers d’Esther is a series of graphic novels documenting the daily life of a girl from Paris who is nine in the first volume, Histoire de mes dix ans [Tales from my ten-year-old life]. The subsequent volumes see her grow up, surrounded by her parents and brothers. They follow her life at school where inequality between boys and girls and the sometimes violent relationships between teenagers are recounted with considerable sincerity, in-your-face realism, satire, and wit.

The series was a smash hit in France, adapted for TV and translated into many languages. Readers young and old impatiently wait for Esther’s latest adventures every year, and many teenagers identify with her. The graphic novel also shows contemporary society through Esther’s eyes, touching on politics and terrorism and capturing tiny details of everyday life.
