Mille Pertuis

(A Thousand Openings) Book not yet available in English

Summary:

Ortie d’Alambrin, 15, lives with her mother, the fascinating Omphale, her gifted older sister and her little ogre sister: all are witches and live between marginality and good understanding with the world of ‘commoners’. Ortie retraces her history to search her childhood for the moment when ‘everything went wrong’, when she lost her ‘North’, so essential to witches.

Comment:

A refreshingly original take on witch characters, both poetic and trashy. The pace is well maintained, the writing is excellent, and you’ll find yourself hooked from the very first page. The sequel is eagerly awaited.
