Summary:
The protagonist and first-person narrator is a teenage boy whose white-picket-fence childhood is cut short by his parents’ divorce. Uprooted from a lovely house with a garden, he moves with his mother to a bleak apartment block, while his father leaves with his young lover to live on the coast. A sensitive boy, he now finds himself in deep emotional turmoil: his mother, after the divorce, sinks into depression, his father’s visits and seaside invitations grow increasingly rare, and he struggles to make friends in his new surroundings. An excellent athlete, he finds solace in football. But when a new coach arrives, his already fragile, wounded soul is nearly shattered. (Anica Derganc, Mestna knjižnica Ljubljana)

Comment:
In this excellent, psychologically nuanced narrative, the author shows how immature or self-absorbed parents can leave lasting emotional scars on children who crave nothing more than love and attention. (Anica Derganc, Mestna knjižnica Ljubljana)
