Summary:
Solange, 17 y. o., frequents Parisian balls with Clémence and Lili. Naive and full of dreams, she allows herself to be seduced by Robert Maximilien and agrees to marry him. But her prince is a jealous tyrant who only takes her out to show her off at society dinners.
Caught between Robert and Emma, her bitter old aunt, Solange slowly suffocates. Fortunately, the sassy Lili and sweet Clémence are there to support her.
When World Wrar I breaks out, Robert is sent tot the front. This gives Solange the opportunity to free herself from her husband’s domination and finally start living, in a town where women are gradually organizing themselves without men.

The historical novel depicts the upheavals in French society between the Belle Époque, World War I, and the Roaring Twenties. In this changing world, women courageously fight for their freedom and emancipation, whether they belong to the working class, the bourgeoisie, or the artistic community. A well-researched historical epic that is as informative as it is enjoyable to read.
