Summary:
Eetu is starting high school in a sad situation: his mother has disappeared last spring during her morning swim in the sea. Eetu’s father is incapable of taking care of Eetu and his little sister Isla, so Eetu has to take responsibility for the everyday life of the family. Eetu has to quit yacht racing because of a lack of money. Luckily Eetu’s best friend Salla is there for him. Her behaviour has changed and Eetu thinks she might have a crush on him. Uncertainty about their mother’s fate is weighing on the whole family. Eetu is certain that she is not dead. Has it really been an accident or does their mother’s marine biology research have something to do with it? The story continues in the second book of the duology.

The novel deals with a tough and exceptional situation, and how a young boy deals with all of it. Eetu has to carry too big of a responsibility for their family, because their father is not capable of taking care of the kids. Eetu cannot live like a normal teenager and is forced to quit yacht racing. He is jealous of his competitors Salla and Rasmus. Eetu is on the verge of burnout especially when his mother’s fate is constantly on his mind. Through a school project related to the Baltic Sea, Eetu begins to find out together with his friends if his mother could still be alive. At the end of the book is a section “What you can do for the Baltic Sea”, prepared in collaboration with the John Nurminen Foundation.
