Summary:
The Earth Home is a utopian place, where everyone is equal and nature flourishes after an environmental disaster. Five teenagers, who have all faced sorrow, meet each other at the Harmony Camp for the lonely in the year of 2130. Three of those girls are from the Earth Home: Joselina, who is trans, and lost her brother in an attack of mysterious mechanical insects; Lise-Lotte who lives freely and loves having sex; and Kaia, the only white person of the group. Two of the five girls are from the Island State, where people have decided not to live the same peaceful way as in the Earth Home: Zerinda’s brain is full of memories from her ancestress’; Ritva is lying about her family, saying that they are all dead. The girls leave the Harmony Camp to find and fight against mysterious mechanical insects, Feizhongs. During the journey the girls learn a lot about themselves, as well as each other and the world – while also solving the mystery of the mechanical insects.

The novel is a utopian tale about a world after an environmental disaster and the end of the world. The Earth Home is a society where everyone is equal and nature is healed and flourishes. Daughters of the World is also a story about different kinds of people and the connections and friendships between them. Each of the five girls takes turns as the narrator of the book. The novel discusses the themes of a utopian society, loss, grief and forgiveness, as well as gender and sexuality.
