(Taste of emptiness) Book not yet available in English
Summary:
Teenaged and not very confident Anna wants to have control over at least one thing – herself. But what if that control means trying at all costs to get the lowest number on the scale, the desire to become the ideal she sees every day on social media? Anna regularly writes about the story of anorexia slowly creeping into her life in her diary, and the carefree girl gradually becomes a starving wreck obsessed with her body. But how thin can a person be and still exist?

Comment:
The debut work of this Czech author deals with the complex topic of eating disorders, specifically anorexia. Through diary entries, the main character takes readers on her inner journey from the desire to control her own life to her gradual descent into anorexia. The book describes not only the strategies that Anna uses to lose weight (excessive exercise, starvation), but also other common accompanying phenomena and causes of anorexia in adolescents, such as complicated family relationships, the negative influence of current beauty ideals, and pressure from social media.
