Summary:

The morning of Vidovden confronts Maria with the long-dormant truth – everything torn in her life is a consequence not of weakness, but of the strength she carries. To sew it up, she must return to where she was born – to the Balkans.
As she approaches the bright houses in the town of Elena, the stories of six other women move toward her, pulled by the thread of a Kotla carpet with an other-wordly pattern. The magical fabric of the carpet connects Maria with her ever-active mother Ruzha, who managed to find happiness in a specific order; with her grandmother Dana, who passed on to her the gift of creating with her hands; with her great-grandmother Zorka, who built the house that will always be a welcoming home; and with three strangers treading paths familiar to the heart – the pianist Ana, the hajiya Skarlada and the weaver Jova.
Shifting between today and the past, the chapters in “Thread” move like a shuttle on a loom, painting the eternal truth that the present day is a manifestation of all past and future times. That each of us carries both our ancestors and those who will be born. But also – that we have the freedom to chart our own path when we take the power of the invisible and weave it into the visible. This is a book that brings the comfort that reality is the true savior.

Comment:

The story of a carpet, woven by the skillful hands of a young Bulgarian woman in the picturesque town of Kotel, weaves together the destinies of 7 strong women in three different centuries. A thread that connects everything and everyone. The story of each of them is connected to each other – grandmother, great-grandmother and so on until we reach our present day. The power of the Bulgarian woman is great and this is how Bulgarian traditions are preserved.
