Short, powerful texts provide concise portraits that convey strong feminist messages. This documentary album is both informative and inspiring. Accompanied by Alice Dussutour’s colorful, minimalist full-page illustrations, it dusts off an imaginary world that has long been presented as weighed down by the obvious because it is old, but in fact steeped in patriarchal values. Anne Lanoë demonstrates, without banality or anachronism, that classical mythology lives on through its ever-changing reinterpretations. She also reminds us of the richness of past narratives in the search for answers to today’s struggles.
