Comment:
This illustrated children’s novel is a quirky lineup of eccentrics—mostly adults, but the fun kind! The sort of grown-ups any child would be fascinated to read about. Still, The Lady with the Hat has plenty to offer adults too, especially anyone whose unfulfilled dreams could use a gentle dusting off. Another standout feature of the book is its exquisitely crafted visual design. Just as Maša Ogrizek fills the text with whimsical details and unexpected twists, illustrator Tanja Komadina brings it to life with imaginative visual touches, from the expressive endpapers all the way to the colophon page. Her illustrations are sometimes dynamic, sometimes humorous, and often both, while creating — like the text itself — a warm, homely atmosphere that draws the reader in. The book has received the Lewstik Award and the Golden Pear Quality Badge.
