Summary:
The educational picture book features nineteen stories with charming illustrations depicting scenes from everyday life. In each story, a child faces a tricky problem they can’t solve on their own. That’s when Oli the Little Snail steps in — a shy, gentle little friend who always finds the right answer. The child tries Oli’s idea, either alone or with an adult, and enjoys the feeling of having solved the situation. (source: publisher)

Comment:
Changing one’s behaviour doesn’t happen overnight – it takes time. Oli the Little Snail often retreats into his shell to think things through before arriving at a good idea. In doing so, he shows us the value of patience, perseverance, and self-acceptance, especially when grappling with overwhelming emotions. Sometimes, it takes multiple retreats into our own “shell” to process and move beyond the intensity of our feelings. This includes finding the capacity to be a (good enough) parent. Reading Oli the Little Snail Gives Advice together can become a meaningful journey for both parent and child, offering a shared way to explore emotions and relationships while strengthening their bond.
