Summary:
13-year-old Frida starts middle school with her best friend Liina. The two had a fairytale summer in the Maple Forest, but Frida soon realizes that there is no going back to the childhood days of playing fairies. School is tiring in a different way, the topics of health classes are puberty, sex education and self-determination, and Liina starts to take an interest in different things – like the Romani boy Nino. Frida thinks Nino is annoying and even mean, but soon she finds herself falling in love with the same boy. Friendships are strained, and not everything is okay at Frida’s home either.

The verse novel depicts the life of a young girl in the transition from childhood to adolescence. Frida misses the safe games of childhood, but at the same time she notices the awakening of new feelings and desires. When Frida and her friend Liina fall in love with the same boy, their relationship breaks down. Although everything is wonderful with Nino, she is also burdened by the tense atmosphere at home, in addition to arguing with Liina. Frida notices her mother crying secretly and hears that her father has cheated on her. The book deals with the transition phase at the beginning of adolescence, the awakening of sexuality as well as friendships, family and relationships.
