Älä unohda minua
(Forget-Me-Not) Book not yet available in English
Summary:
A florist named Hilla gets an unexpected call from her ex-boyfriend. Kari is a student guidance counsellor in school and he has forgotten to acquire an on-the-job training spot for Eero. Hilla agrees to take Eero to her flower shop. The start is a little bit difficult, but soon Hilla notices how kind and artistic Eero is. They share surprisingly the same taste in music: Eero listens to Hilla’s favourite band from her youth, Children of Bodom. The two build trust little by little and at the same time, Hilla has to face the ghosts of her own past. Eero’s story continues in the verse novel Greipinkeltainen tulevaisuus (“The Future as Yellow as a Grapefruit”, 2024).

Comment:
The graphic novel deals with the situation of young Eero, where there are no safe adults in his life. Eero himself has to play such a role for his friend. The trust between Eero and Hilla grows as they get to know each other, and soon Hilla becomes a safe adult for Eero. She comes up with a way based on phone messages to save Eero from situations he wants to get out of. The book also deals with loss: years ago, Hilla and Kari’s child was stillborn, and Hilla has not gotten over this.
