Summary:
Miguel Dos Santos, a 15-year-old from a new housing estate, takes part in a beer pong game with his friends. For serving his clique alcohol-free beer (though not on purpose), he has to dress up as a girl at the next disco with his three friends. Unexpectedly, he befriends Candy, the school heartthrob. Miguel’s new role as a girl gets him an insight into things that would have stayed hidden from him as a boy. But this friendship is a breeding ground for conflict, spurred on by Candy’s off-again-on-again boyfriend. Mort’s writing is clear and direct. He describes the situations in short, snappy sentences. The text contains long stretches written in youth jargon. The reader will appreciate the teenagers’ journey, and gain confidence in life. A fun and easy-to-read youth novel. A change in pace for young people aged 14 and up and for the young at heart.
