Mädchenmeute

(Girl pack) Book not yet available in English

Summary:

Only reluctantly does shy 15-year-old Charlotte Nowak head off to summer camp with seven other girls. But, at this camp, everything is different from what she expected: things go missing, and one morning, their group leader freaks. The girls run for the hills, steal a dog catcher’s van along with the dogs inside, and drive to the Ore Mountains where one of the girls knows of an abandoned mine. The girls decide to stay there, and each summer day they spend in this place empowers their feeling of freedom, each day more exciting than the previous one. The group has adventures in the woods and forays in supermarket containers at night. And Charly Nowak realises she’s more than just shy. But suddenly, the girls come across a precarious relic from the German Democratic Republic. The real world catches up with them, and then on top of everything, first love comes into the picture. Now, Charly has to prove not only the courage she has just found in herself, but also her faith in her new friends…

Comment:

Reading this story is addictive, because it’s really beautiful and clever in a rather simple way. And of course, it’s also very funny.
