The Prominents is a new book penned by youth author Žiga X Gombač and illustrated by Jaka Vukotič. In the humorous and witty language of comics, the authors present 30 prominent people from the territory of present-day Slovenia. These are our ancestors, men and women who have made the world a better place not only for themselves, but also for others, through their bravery, their courage, and clear goals. They left their mark on the history of Slovenia and the history of the world. They worked in many different fields and therefore the choice of characters speaks to a very wide range of young readers, both girls and boys. We can read about explorers and adventurers, writers and poets, innovators and inventors, pioneers of all kinds, architects, seismologists, and women who became botanists, travellers, doctors, pilots, movie stars, businesswomen, and the list could go on. In this work, we get to know 19 men and 11 women who lived on the territory of present-day Slovenia from the 17th to the 20th century. Let us emphasise that, despite the playfulness and humour characteristic of comics, the authors made sure to maintain the accuracy and credibility of the biographical data of all of the personalities.
