Živa in stiška kneginja

(Živa and the Princess of Stična) Book not yet available in English

Summary:

In the Iron Ages, in a settlement above present-day Stična, life is busy and exciting. The chief of the town wants to marry off his daughter Vira. And this is no small matter. The most imminent suitors of the time are racing to get there. They all want to ask for Vira’s hand in marriage because it would bring them not only love, but wonderful riches and substantial influence as well. However, it seems that not all of the participants in the betrothal have had their say. After all, Vira is against it. She finds herself in the midst of a great trial of strength. Our museum heroine Živa and the handsome situla maker Svit help her through it. (source: publisher)

Comment:

Živa the Museum Girl series was created as a result of the cooperation between the two authors and the experts from the National Museum of Slovenia. It represents a valuable contribution to the quality collaboration between the literary and the educational aspects of books. At the same time, it reduces the large deficit of books that include both a high-quality way of addressing specialized topics and the visual and textual appeal to younger readers. The authors skilfully incorporate educational elements into exciting adventures, which, to top it all off, are made even more approachable to modern readers through humour and the dynamic language of comics. This time, Živa remains in Slovenia. She transports herself to the Iron Ages, to a prehistoric settlement above what is now known as Vir pri Stični (Vir next to Stična). She befriends Svit, a toreutic artisan (the maker of images on situlae), and Vira, the chief’s daughter. Vira is supposed to choose a husband that day from among the many suitors of various tribes. But the brave Vira has other plans. She cunningly defies the duties imposed on her and, with the help of her two friends, breaks out of the tight bonds of social norms and creates a new home for herself. The work has received the Golden Pear Mark of Quality.
