Comment:
Respect, rights, justice, dignity, and courage: these are the themes that characterize this picture book. The protagonist is a little girl sent to work too early, far from the family, along with many other peers, in a rice field. They were called mondine (rice weeders), and they fought hard while working strenuously on rice fields to improve living conditions, working hours, and wages. Their songs echoed in the valleys: songs of denunciation, and of hope. The book contains links to music, books and CDs and to a video made by the author. The texts are in Italian and English.
