A fledgling is taken in by two male birds. She grows up in a tender, loving, kindly atmosphere. When she is old enough to go to school, her friends want to know why she has two daddies. The daddies explain that it’s because they love each other, which simply makes the three of them a family.

These charming story and illustrations use anthropomorphic animals to show two same-sex parents, Tom and Enzo, and their adopted daughter Lilou. The picture book is in two parts. The first starts with the egg all alone in the nest and ends with it hatching. The second starts when Lilou goes to school (with just one double spread on the intervening period). The book explores the issue of adoption and same-sex parenting with a light touch, but the subject does not necessarily require detailed explanations. The book was initially published by Des Ronds dans l’Eau in 2013.
