The Swedish authors Lena and Olof Landström offer a witty introduction to gender equality in this picture book set in a chicken coop. Four hens share the space with a little cockerel busy working on a big project. Everything is fine as long as the hens don’t bother him, but one day, they quarrel over shares of food and things start to change. The hens demand as much food as the cockerel, who starts throwing his weight around and cracks down hard on them. He leaves them even less room at the trough and imposes his law on them. The hens grow thinner and more frightened, but then decide to go to the gym to build up their muscles and learn breathing techniques to puff up their feathers and make their voices louder, imposing their right to equal helpings from the trough.
