Contes d’un autre genre
(Tales of another genre /gender) Book not yet available in English
Summary:
Three traditional tales – Sleeping Beauty, Bluebeard, and The Red Slippers – are given a witty new reading that criticises and breaks down the usual gender norms associated with them. Each tale is illustrated by a different artist, François Bourgeon, Sylvie Serprix and Nancy Ribard.
Edited by: Université Sorbonne Paris Nord

Comment:
The princesses in these three tales take their fate in their own hands, proving that courage, a valiant heart, and the spirit of initiative are not exclusive to men. Conversely, sensitivity and gentleness are not the sole preserve of the female characters. What they all turn out to have in common is freedom. The anthology was endorsed by Amnesty International and received a particularly warm reception from French critics. The 2017 edition differs slightly from the first edition published in 2011.
