Comment:
This tale battles sexism and sexist toys. It also resembles a fable, with a final moral lesson: the boy is punished by a fairy due to his sexist attitude when he despised dolls, considering them “girls’ stuff.” He turns into a toy (which reminds Pinocchio) and learns that dolls (and girls) are able to do the same things as he does and that they can also to be braver than him. He also comes to know that by playing together, boys and girls avoid gender-stereotyped play and that this can be much funnier. Its courful and brilliant illustrations remind children of Disney first animated feature films and are the perfect match for the story.
