Summary:
Witika wants to go to school, but has to walk for 5 hours every day to fetch water and also has to take care of her siblings. Witika is afraid of lions, so her grandfather Moussa gives her an amulet to protect her from the big lion. One day, Witika found an injured lioness and started to take care of her every day. Since then, she is no longer afraid when she goes to fetch water.

Comment:
The book deals with human and social values from a simple and attractive perspective. It teaches kids to create their moral identity and learn to share and help. African characters are poor but possess values that enable readers to empathise with them. Cultural diversity and social relationships are also explained and a feminine perspective is adopted.
