Comment:
This book depicts the strong relationship between father and daughter, while not succumbing to gender stereotypes, and presenting a diverse family. It broadens the ideas of what is associated with genders, and indeed with adults as opposed to children, as Luna is shown as loving bugs while her Dad is scared of them. Their time at the library is used to explore the natural world and the imaginary world. Real world anxieties are also explored in the form of a story within the story, about a mermaid and troll who didn’t get on and separated but who loved their mermaid daughter very much.
