Summary:

A woman of many talents. Between art, fashion and civic engagement, here is the incredibly rich and complex story of Lee Miller, a multifaceted and surprising woman, never satisfied, always searching for something new. A model at first, then an avant-garde artist, a war correspondent, a journalist, even a cook… Without ever being afraid of confronting major historical events. [Publisher’s website]

Comment:

“Lee Miller is the twentieth century. In her lies the strength of a woman in the maelstrom of the most tumultuous century ever experienced by human beings. And she travels through it with elegance, grace, strength, courage. She is a beautiful woman, but above all she is an intelligent woman. And her transformation from model to war correspondent for Vogue is one of the most surprising in history. Miller is best known for her photography and was at the centre of artistic circles where the future was envisioned. Eleonora Antonioni creates a five-part graphic novel that shows this queen of the twentieth century as we have never seen her.” [Original Italian text by Igiaba Scego, on Internazionale]
The five chapters retrace some stages of Lee Miller’s life, from childhood to her final days, portraying a free, extraordinarily talented and beautiful woman who had the courage to be herself and to reinvent and transform herself whenever she needed. A free woman in a century and a time when women had little freedom. An incredible life and a fascinating story passionately told in this refined graphic novel, in which yellow dominates the three-colour (white, black and yellow) illustrations.
A rich appendix presents “Gli uomini di Lee” (Lee’s men) and the other famous personalities mentioned. Sinnos also uses the highly legible font “leggimi graphic” (read me graphic) for this book.
