Comment:
This picture book, written by Beatrice Masini and brilliantly illustrated by Anna Laura Canton, won the Andersen Award 2003 for the 0-6-year-old category. Through the misadventures of Filomena, who focuses on her physical appearance so much that she ends up neglecting her future husband, the book invites us not to stop at appearances, to live fully the time we have together with others, and to look at the essence of feelings. Thanks to the playful love story between the protagonists and to the ironic and original illustrations which play with the text by dialoguing with the story, the readers can enjoy a book that conveys a moral and avoids pedantic tones.
