Summary:
In Northern Cameroon, patience is the main virtue that families teach their future wives. It is unthinkable to oppose the will of Allah, and even the will of the older men in the family. Within the walls of wealthy homes, where polygamy, rivalry, violence and absolute submission to the fairer sex reign, women are condemned to silence and suffering.
This novel intertwines the destinies of the very young Ramla, torn from her first love to marry a rich friend of her uncle; Safira, faced with the arrival of a second wife in the house; and Hindu, forcibly married to her cousin.
